Comparing Oblivion Remastered Arena and The Classic Arena

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered’s Arena storyline looks better than ever and here are my impressions of this classic storyline.

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered edition is selling like hot cakes and I have been enjoying it. This is a game of my teenage years and when first got into Role Playing Games. Unlike Skyrim, I consider the Elder Scrolls

I have been taking screenshots of multiple areas of interest in the game just so that I can analyze what the graphics and how Bethesda has been improving the way the game looks.

I think that one of my favorite locations in the game is the Bloodworks located in the Imperial City Arena district area. It is a nice and compact map and there, one can enter the Bloodworks underneath the Arena building.

The Arena plotline is one of my favorite in the game due to its compact nature. I love gladiator style games and Oblivion’s plotline here in the Arena is right for me.

When you compare the graphics of the original game and this remastered version, you get a sense of color that once missing in the clothes in Oblivion’s gamebyro engine. The one thing that bothers me about the game the most is that the color palette of the game is not the same now. The colors that were brighter and more painterly in the original game are currently missing in favor of greater realism in the game.

One can also see that the people in the stands of the arena are not as visible in Oblivion Remastered. They are more in the shadows and the fog rather than standing out like a sore thumb here. There is also a neat addition of some shade for the spectators of the Arena combat. The Arena also looks more intimidating, like in a sense its place of savage entertainments. I think it is going to be one of the standout graphical enhancements to the game.

The entrance to the Arena in Oblivion Remastered edition.

The Arena in Oblivion Remastered is much better than the original Arena. In the original game, the arena did not have this look as you can see above.

The Arena in remastered version of Oblivion Remastered is more reminiscent of the Roman Colosseum. The way how the lighting looks here makes it seem that the Arena is in Hammerfell, land of the Redguards and not the center of Septim Empire.

I think that the Arena in Oblivion is a great showcase of the shadows and lighting of the new version.

Oblivion Classic Imperial City Arena

As you can see here, the arena in the original game did not have the same lighting. New graphics technology that is available in Unreal Engine 5 gives a new life to the Imperial City Arena.

Here is my Orc Barbarian in the Arena. The costume lacks a certain color variety here and is only in one dark shade of blue and some browns. Oblivion Remastered simply brings out the clothes out more in the clothes in the game. The Orcs also look more realistic in this game also. Some players prefer the older versions of the Orcs and I have mixed feelings about it. However, with the move to Unreal Engine 5, modern graphics were going to change some of the races.

As one can see in these images, Oblivion was originally a more a painterly game. The transition towards a higher quality has made the game in the words of one user I saw on YouTube become more like: A Roman Empire style Simulator Game. I can see that comparison makes sense, especially when one looks at the screenshot below with my warrior standing victorious after a match with combatant in her light armor. This game looks gorgeous in my opinion.

I played a couple matches and the experience is much better than in the original game. The lighting, effects and the gameplay all match into a cohesive whole.

I think that the remaster adds alot of character to the Arena. It was always the most interesting part of the game for me other than the main quest. I just love the gladiatorial combat in the game and I wish that Bethesda would put more of this into Elder Scrolls VI.

As players continue their exploration of Cyrodill, I highly recommend taking a look at the Arena questline in this classic game.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered GeForce Now Review

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Daedric Armor
My Nord Character named “Joan of Arc” in the GeForce Now Version of Elder Scrolls Oblivion.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Edition is now out, and many players are diving into the realm of Cyrodiil once again. The game has come out on multiple platforms, and I am currently playing it on GeForce Now after playing it on Steam. I generally play games on Steam to see whether my Gaming computer can handle new games. I am constrained by my budget. I need to see how long I can stretch out using my gaming computers. Here is how my experience with Oblivion Remastered on Steam as a comparison to GeForce Now.

Experience on running the game on Steam

However, many players have been having issues with it, which isn’t surprising. Considering that the game is running on Unreal Engine 5, this game is very demanding. People’s computers are going to be blowing like crazy. Mine was and it was clear that I was going to have to take other measures to get the game to work on my computer.

While the game would default my settings to medium, it was clear that my computer was going to continue having issues. While the gameplay was largely smooth, there lag spikes in the game.

Another issue that came up is that my computer would start crashing after about some time playing the game. My game would slow to slideshow crawl while the fans would start blowing like crazy. Then the computer would restart.

I have an additional fan under my computer which runs as this issue was popping up even in games that were ancient in comparison to this remastered game.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered White Horse
The Horses in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered have incredible details and have incredible realism that the original was unable to get in the Gamebyro engine.

A strong aspect of Oblivion Remastered is the graphics. The horses in particular have much more detail in comparison to the previous game. There is also a greater sense of the color contrast in the game. While some of the painterly style of the original game is not there now, the greater realism is actually allowing the colors to stand out more.

Oblivion Remastered on GeForce Now

The Geforce Now version of Oblivion Remastered is more stable than running it on my SSD. However, there is some stuttering in it and lag.

The Imperial City Bridge from a vantage point near the Lake Rumare.

Considering that I run this game on a Wi-fi Connection, it is not surprising that there will be some hiccups here and there. In comparison with the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the experience is smoother. I think it is the quicker pace of gameplay that makes Oblivion more suitable to being streamed in comparison with Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

I think that subscribing to GeForce Now is worth it, especially if your computer is not meeting the requirements.

Even the most mundane aspects of the Oblivion Remastered edition have incredible details that show the contrasts in colors.

Obviously, I would want run the game natively on my SSD. Having to use an internet to stream a game is still not good enough. There are too many lag spikes and the experience is rather uneven. These lag spikes seem to be quite noticeable at times. Sometimes my character will turn its head and there is clear sign of lag. It is a compromise, but it cannot replace the act of actually having the game on the computer. I would recommend attaching your computer directly to the internet using an ethernet connection. Wi-Fi is too unstable even when you have an internet connection which is higher 100 Mbps.

You should also play for the Ulimate Version of the GeForce Now service.

On performance which costs 9.99 dollars, it struggles with streaming Oblivion Remastered. The computer and graphics card which the ulimate edition is emulating is much more capable of handling Oblivion Remastered. So this is a recommendation that you will need to choose the service which costs 19.99 a month in order to stream this game. This is of course on top of purchasing Oblivion Remastered for 49.99 on Steam. This is a reasonable price for a game that has much better quality gameplay than most modern games that play more like movies than video games.

Emperor Uriel Septim VII in all his glory in the remastered edition of Oblivion. Notice the shine on his robes that wasn’t there in the original game.

With AI or LLMs becoming more powerful and useful to many people, it is clear that having data centers just for gaming is not that teneable. Of course, they could find a way in order to make the process more efficient but with the size of the data centers that they are building now, it is clear that the gaming in this way is not as efficient as they thought.

The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered Forest Graphics
Oblivion Remastered is absolutely gorgeous. It looks so nice that it can be seen as a cozy game.

Having GeForce Now works for budget gamers. I enjoy it but it has its flaws. I want an experience that does not have these lag spikes. The recommendation that I can give is that you should have an ethernet connected to it.

I give my experience with GeForce Now a 3 out 5 stars. It is good enough but there needs to be some changes so that the experience does not as much lag here. The service allows for alot of feedback, so you should try to explain after each game session how it was.

With the Oblivion Remastered Edition being on sale already, it’s a opportune time to enjoy this classic game.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered 2025 Impressions

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Nord Character.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Remaster is here!

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has been reintroduced to the world and it is making waves across the globe.

I was initially skeptical of such a game releasing now. I thought that Bethesda would want to release the Elder Scrolls VI first before remastering Oblivion. Apparently, Bethesda has shown themselves to be efficient and competent at their jobs.

Unlike the Avowed game that came out, this game is actually well made. All it needed was a facelift to make it better. I think this is one of the reasons why the Remastered version has over 160,000 Players on Steam now. Bethesda has shown that UE5 or Unreal Engine 5 can make old games beautiful again.

I think that the game is truly a huge step up from the original game. I played the original for many hours, but these graphics make it seem like a whole new experience.

My first character is a Nord who named after the 15th Century military and spiritual leader, Joan of Arc.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Lighting Effects in the game.

I am still in the opening dungeon in the game and yet the details are all there. The leafs on the vines and the trees going into the dungeons. In comparison with the original games’ style, it is alot more alive and colorful. Such a contrast between the stone and the greenery is one of the reasons why I love Oblivion more than Skyrim.

I think the Remaster is a test tube for Bethesda to show off what they will do with the Elder Scrolls VI.

With the release now a success and the Elder Scrolls VI on the horizon, I think that we should thank them for even paying attention to this game.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion gets another lease on life and that is worth its weight in gold in an industry not known for respecting its products.

Enjoy the game!
