Cyber Monday is here, and it is in many ways bigger than Black Friday in some ways. In the past, Black Friday and the days before Christmas used to hog all the attention. Now, with Amazon’s dominance in ecommerce, Cyber Week and Cyber Monday have become more important than the shopping in the physical stores. This was a slow process but it really began with the Pandemic when people got more used to shopping online.

People were already having these habits before the pandemic, but Amazon and many ecommerce shops were able to fulfill a need for many consumers.

Amazon Rufus along with other shopping chatbots are changing the way we shop and leading to higher sales. Companies need to take advantage of generative AI. Most chatbots in the past were only really good at specific questions. The new generation of generative AI is helping to make shopping more precise and personal in a way the old model of searching and scrolling was unable to accomplish here.

Shopping AI is truly a big change for shoppers.

  1. They can now check prices month to month. This was only available on select sites, not its more holistic and you type in about any product without old style searching here.
  2. There is more of a move towards frictionless commerce. Shoppers can spend more time on the quality of the product instead of going through search bars and inconsistent search engines.
  3. Customers are able to Auto-Buy based on price changes, allowing for people to spend more time on other aspects of their holidays.
  4. Customers are saving time shopping.
  5. Shops now have to focus on quality not just getting on search results on the sites.

Many business owners are now seeing that Search Engine Optimization on Amazon and other search sites has to have an element of quality in your product.

Customer Reviews are now more important than before. As Rufus is collecting these reviews to make a summary, you need to make sure that your products are reviewing well now. Whereas before customers may not scroll to see reviews, they will see them in the summaries.

Quality matters not just gaming the SEO game.

I hope that stores realize the important power of shopping AI and make the shopping experience more enjoyable.

How to be successful on YouTube: Grab your audience’s attention when they press play

The beginning of a YouTube video is probably the most important part of your content. When you look at the analytics, it is clear that the beginning is where the drop off in viewership occurs; you need to pay attention to your hooks so that people stay throughout the entire video.

In the beginning of the platform, YouTube was emphasizing growth in the company. The view count was what mattered and that was the order of the day. However, when we get to the early 2010s, YouTube’s management began to change the rules.

Watch Time is the new baseline here.

This has been the main way for creators and filmmakers to get popular on YouTube.

You want the drop off in the beginning of the video to be quite small. What you want is people watching the video throughout the entire time so that they basically do not change the video to go to the recommended list on their apps.

The most ideal situation here is that they watch the entire video to its conclusion, and after the ad if they are not premium, get a list of your videos on autoplay or similar video from another YouTuber.

How to keep your audience’s attention:

Get the hook.

My advice is this here:

Get your audience’s attention just as you would writing a book or even making a video game.

Make sure that the audience knows what the video is about from the beginning. Do not just focus on endless elaboration.

Sometimes your hook can be something flashy or sometimes it can be something that provokes thinking in your audience.

What is important to grab their attention. This is even more important with YouTube Shorts. You need to deal with a generation of kids who are not as interested in long-form videos. Getting that attention early not only helps viewership but creates trust among viewers. They keep coming back again and again.

Overoptimization can cause some creators to have burnout. Just be yourself and have passion for your projects. This way, you will have success and grow your channels.

The Google Empire: Why we need more search engines other than Google

The usage of “network” effect to basically dismiss calls for other search engines or any other institution is a common phrase. The people who use it to say there is something transhistorical about Google and that people should be just accept Google. The thing that Google has is the ability to just control the access to information and also installing their search services on every Android device here. Microsoft got in trouble for the same thing, but now they are basically the underdogs here in the search space with Bing, which is good but is basically unable to gain traction because Google keeps people within their systems. This means that people only see Google and not other competitors.

I use Google’s products as they are not incompetent at making email services such as Gmail. However, they are often used as the only service and the “nerds” or power” users are trying to use other products. For example, think about DuckDuckGo or other search engines such as Bing as I mentioned earlier. However, Bing is the only one that is capable of challenging Google. In the early 2010s, its market share was higher than it is now but it is unable to get beyond a small percentage.

We need more search engine choices.

Why is that we allow people to congregate in the “best”

This best is being propped up with all sorts of trickery and manipulations. The most important thing that can happen now is that we need to break up the app stores of both Google and Apple. This duopoly has allowed for the ossification of many aspects of the internet. It has led to the decline in the quality of desktop sites. Previously, desktop sites had all their charm and qualities. Now it the same throughout and it is not interesting now. Even the corporate sites, the front page of a company’s brand have become little more than portals to their social media sites.

We need competition and while we may have alternatives, we do not currently have competition.

Search engines should be an area of competition and growth and not beholden to only one company. The internet is a space without any limit in space only bandwidth. We should have many choices.
