DeepSeek facing countrywide bans in 2025: The Internet Cold War?

Deepseek AI made quite a splash when it was released in January. It caused Nasdaq’s stock to drop temporarily but the company has been the target of many western attacks.

The issue with DeepSeek is simply the same thing that ByteDance is facing with TikTok: Its a Chinese app.

For many years, China was able to be in the order, build its economy, while the West was hoping it would become more like them, while Putin’s Russia was the corrupt offshoot which was not following their orders. China has an ancient culture which was making advanced Jade sculptures in its Neolithic cultures, is not going to bend to Europe. China has a sophisticated political culture, and its people have generations of political wisdom unlike the Russians.

DeepSeek has made Generative AI much cheaper. While some were trying to criticize it, the app has gotten millions of users. It has been very successful and it making headways across the AI space.

Deepseek has been facing bans in the bureaucracies of Western European countries. However, I believe that the European countries are doing a disservice to their populations.

Chinese tech is spreading across the globe. Xiaomi has been making many competitive devices and putting European brands such as Philips to shame. I think that DeepSeek will be a viable competitor to Open AI and Elon Musk’s Grok AI.

This Internet Cold War is a consequence of the age of globalization been driven by the West thinking that China would just come into its own cultural sphere.

The main problem is that the West is arrogant and is reliant on its own success in the past. China’s DeepSeek is going to be competitive with Yandex’s Alice and Baidu’s AI. It is going to be sort of a BRICS style AI consortium.

The humble computer mouse has gone through quite a journey. The mouse now is a slick and comfortable piece of hardware, but not all mice are built the same.

The Logitech M720 Triathlon Mouse is one of those mice that is well worth the money. Unlike other mice such as those sold at Walmart, this mouse is slightly above the budget price point of other mice.

My previous mouse, a smaller Logitech mouse, was not as comfortable to use.

Unlike the older mouse, this mouse has interesting and unique features in comparison.

The middle button, located near the mouse wheel functions as a way of increasing scroll speed on the cursor. When the button is loose, the scroll speed is much faster on the browsers. Pressing it down when put the scroll speed back to a regular speed on the browser; such a feature is useful for when you are trying to get through long pages quickly on the computer.

The mouse also has three buttons on the left side of the mouse. These buttons can be mapped for any function in any program of your choice. Having these extra buttons make this mouse more useful for people who are looking for easier ways to multitask at the office or for some gamers looking for a budget mouse.

Gamers, specifically, may want a mouse that has more buttons on it. I find the M720 Triathlon mouse to be more useful in an office setting than in the gaming or video editing settings.

The Mouse is available for 34.99 at Walmart. It is pricer than some smaller, Logitech mice, but it is worth the additional investment due to its ergonomics and extra buttons.

The Oracle Hack and its refusal to take responsbility.

It is yet another day in the Oracle Hacking crisis. The company is not interested in taking any responsibility for its actions. The inability to stop the hack or even responsibility is a big issue that the government should be investigating here. While one can say that Oracle is not an omnipotent company, they still need to be aware that security matters. The company is wasting its time by not responding to the complaints.

Oracle has to understand that it’s reputation is at stake here and action must be taken to restore confidence.

I am not a cyber security expert but everyday there seems to be more hacks and break ins by hackers.

Oracle needs to take this seriously and give the right response to their customers.

With the Lazarus Group from Kim Jong Un’s North Korea stealing crypto and this hack, something has to change.

What can change?

I think that educating people on cyber security should be in schools. Too often, it seen as an easy class in high school and in college. When I went to George Mason University, IT class was seen as a burden by students. It is time that perception changes. Even after all these years of computer education, many students are not serious about applying it. Computer programming is back in the realm of the nerds, and it is not seen as interesting by students.

Such classes should have classes on how to be aware of phishing attacks or malware. Too many times we are seeing the older folks on the internet being manipulated by social engineering emails.

Replace Passwords with Passcodes

Replacing passwords with passcodes is another way that cybersecurity can be improved on the internet. I have recently been using my browser to save passwords as there are too many to remember. Such passwords, even when strong, are not enough to deter hackers. We need to have stronger protections from hackers. Passcodes could be the solution. There are too many stories of people having passwords which are basically just 123, which is not conducive for secure sites.

Taking action takes time and some people are just unable to pay attention to the cyber realm with any seriousness.

Another thing that needs to happen is that we need to upgrade our servers and computers. America is going through a building boom in data centers. Maintaining such centers and upgrading them when appropriate will be vital in making sure our cyber infrastructure is sparkling new and ready for any challenges.

Oracle can take the step towards revitalization of America’s cyberspace. They can start by being honest and upgrading their systems so they are secure.
